Hello again, this is Roxanne from PenSeb&Rox. I've done a lot of thinking about warm weather clothes for Pen. Winter has pretty much missed us in our neck of the woods and I'm optimistically thinking this means we might actually get to break out warm weather clothes during Spring. Yay! When Mabel Madison sent me the pin dots chambray and Hello Kitty knit to try, I knew it would be perfect for a warm weather look.

Joggers are all over the place now and come in a wide array of fabric options. No boring solid terry cloth over here! Even a lot of the woven trousers out now follow a very similar silhouette of a looser hip area with a tapered leg and come in an array of fabric options as well. I've even made a Pinterest board of current pants and joggers that I find very inspiring.

A lot of casual style toddler pants do not have adjustable waists so I either have to hack them like I do in this tutorial I posted a few weeks back or make them myself!

I think the looser fit of joggers and casual trouser style will be great for hot days and will add an little extra knee protection if you have an adventurous child like I do. Using a light weight woven like the pin dots chambray will be perfect for warm weather.

I have to admit that I was a bit horrified when I received the chambray. I've had bad experiences with poor quality chambray clothing that is so see-through it needs a lining and wrinkles like crazy even when you use tricks like removing it from the dryer when slightly damp. The fabric I got to try has a great thread count and washed with minimal wrinkling.

For the pants in this look, I used the Just Chillin' Reversible Sweats from Momma Quail Patterns. The pattern works with both knits and wovens! That makes it a fabulous choice for a range of looks. Wanting more of a trouser vibe, I modified the pattern slightly by not using knit leg cuffs, adding a flat front woven waist band, and added front faux-belt detail.

The wrong side of the chambray is pretty cute on its own which made it great for details like the pockets, the rolled up pant leg, and the faux-belt. Since warm weather is not officially here yet instead of cropping the leg to a capri length, I went for a full leg now that I could roll up and tack into place once it heats up.

I've talked about the character knits at Mabel Madison before. The Hello Kitty knit I got to try is just as satisfactory. Like with the pants I made, I wanted a top that could function well now in Pen's wardrobe and still work as the weather heats up. I self-drafted the top partly inspired by the cropped vintage sun tops like in this Simplicity pattern and wanting something that would also work as a layering piece over sundresses or sleeveless tops.

Mabel Madison has an amazing amount of fabric in stock now that really reflects my current inspirations for pants to make for Pen over the next few months. I'm not saying this just because I'm writing a guest post for Mabel Madison. I seriously went to the site thinking I'd quickly just grab a few prints to reference and ended spending the time I should have spent cleaning my sewing machines this morning, dreaming of all the pants I could make. Take a look at some of my ideas!
